A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake has struck western Colombia, killing at least 18 people. Others are reportedly still trapped in collapsed buildings.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicenter was near San José del Palmar, in the Chocó region. The tremors were felt across a wide area of the country, including Cali and Medellín.
At least 20 buildings have collapsed in Cali, and people are believed to remain trapped inside. According to Reuters, the information was confirmed by the city’s mayor, Alejandro Eder.
Authorities have also reported injuries and severe damage to buildings in the cities of Quibdó and Pereira.
Manizales Cathedral is among the structures damaged by the powerful earthquake.
Emergency crews have launched search-and-rescue operations to find people who may be trapped under the rubble.
