Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s latest statements are part of an ongoing rhetoric aimed at escalating tensions, security expert Avni Islami has said.

According to Islami, Vučić continues to pursue this approach toward Kosovo as well, carrying on the political legacy of the period when he served as minister of Propaganda and Information under Slobodan Milošević’s regime.
He said that the pressure is now focused on Lake Ujman, following previous military movements near the border and incidents that endangered security, including the attack in Banjska and the attack on the Ibër-Lepenc critical infrastructure.
Islami emphasized that warnings of a unilateral change to the flow of water, aimed at making life more difficult for citizens, cannot be carried out from a technical standpoint.
Despite this, he believes that such an approach demonstrates an open attempt to call into question the legitimate authority of the Republic of Kosovo and obstruct the extension of law and order throughout its territory.
The security expert stressed that Kosovo must not accept threats, blackmail or other forms of pressure directed against its citizens and institutions.
According to him, the period when blackmail and asymmetric threats were tolerated has ended, while the rule of law and national security will be enforced resolutely, ensuring that every individual is treated equally before the law.
Islami added that those who violate the law will not be granted any privileged status. He concluded by saying that Kosovo’s institutions will continue to guarantee stability through close cooperation with international partners.
