Speaking to reporters in Serbia, Zelensky also said he had reached an agreement with US President Donald Trump on licenses allowing the production of Patriot missile interceptors.
According to the Ukrainian head of state, these systems play a crucial role in defending the country against Russian ballistic missiles. He also criticized delays in deliveries, saying: “Imagine if we had received them four years ago.” With this comment, Zelensky reiterated the importance of the Patriot system to Ukraine’s air defenses.
Patriot ranks among the most advanced air defense systems and is one of the few capable of intercepting ballistic missiles. Russia’s relentless missile attacks have made the system particularly important for Ukraine.
However, the munitions used by Patriot are expensive and available in limited quantities. Kyiv’s allies have provided Ukraine with missiles and air defense systems, but Ukrainian authorities say supplies delivered so far have not met the country’s needs.
Through the planned monthly deliveries, the new agreement aims to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to defend its cities and strategic targets against Russian air attacks.
