The incident was captured on a tourism business’s security cameras on July 31. At the time, a 10-year-old girl was also on the premises, sitting and reading a book, according to Greek media reports.
The man approached a woman who worked at the business and, gesturing toward the girl, asked her, “How much?” According to witnesses, his gestures made the nature of the proposition clear, Top Channel correspondent Aleksandër Marku reports.
After the woman reacted angrily and demanded to know what he was saying, the tourist made a similar proposition to her as well. The business owner told private television channel MEGA that the man had asked how much he would have to pay “to buy the little girl.”
The woman warned him that she would notify the police, prompting the tourist to leave immediately. When officers arrived at the hotel where he was believed to be staying, the man was no longer there.
Police sources said the tourist had no contact or direct communication with the 10-year-old. Despite this, authorities are continuing their efforts to identify and locate him, as they suspect he may repeat similar behavior toward other children.
Meanwhile, Greek media have published differing accounts regarding the family’s decision on whether to pursue legal action.
