Democratic candidate arrested in Hawaii after allegedly threatening beachgoers with a knife

Kirill Basin, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Congress, has been arrested following a violent confrontation on a Hawaiian beach, where he allegedly threatened several people and pulled out a knife.

The confrontation took place at Keawakapu Beach in South Kihei after a 61-year-old man asked Basin to turn down the volume of his music. According to authorities, the 40-year-old politician then became involved in an argument with several people on the beach.

The situation escalated when Basin approached the group and began making threatening statements. Witnesses said that at one point he told them: “If you want to end up in the hospital, come over here.

The argument then turned into a physical altercation. In footage posted on social media, the candidate can be seen being struck and knocked to the ground. After getting up, he approached the other person again, but the fight did not continue.

Witnesses said that during the incident, Basin claimed to have a weapon. Later, he allegedly pulled out a knife and threw it into the sea, while police found the weapon at the scene.

Officers arrested Basin on a charge of first-degree terroristic threatening. The court set bail at $1 million for his release.

Kirill Basin is running in Hawaii’s Second Congressional District, where he is facing incumbent Democratic Representative Jill Tokuda.
