A resident of Bitonto, in Italy’s Puglia region, came close to losing a €1 million prize after accidentally throwing the winning betting ticket in the trash.

When he realized what had happened, the winner immediately asked for help finding the ticket. Employees of the sanitation company Sanb joined the operation and identified the compactor truck that had transported the waste.
A special search operation was then launched, with piles of waste combed through for hours. The efforts ended successfully, as the valid ticket was found within 48 hours.
Recovering the ticket allowed the player to claim his €1 million prize.
