Ukrainian authorities described it as one of the deadliest attacks on the Ukrainian capital since the beginning of this year.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said the attacks began after midnight. Air raid alerts continued for more than an hour as missiles struck the capital and its suburbs, damaging residential buildings and warehouses.
According to the authorities’ figures, nine people were killed in the Boryspil district, four in Bucha and one in Fastiv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said people could still be trapped under the rubble. Four of the injured are in serious condition.
Kyiv’s military administration accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed the strikes targeted logistics centers and weapons supplies in Kyiv and the surrounding region. According to Moscow, three cargo ships near the port of Odesa that were transporting military equipment were also attacked.
In response to the attack, Ukraine again urged its allies to send more US-made Patriot interceptor missiles to bolster its defenses against Russian ballistic attacks.
