As conditions in the Spanish city of Ceuta gradually return to normal following the large influx of migrants, tensions have shifted to neighboring Fnidek, where thousands of people have arrived.

Usually known as a quiet resort facing Ceuta, Fnidek has now been engulfed by an extraordinary situation. Barriers have been erected along the beaches, while Moroccan national police officers equipped with long guns have been stationed at almost every corner and on the rocks.
The city’s streets are filled mainly with groups of young people looking for somewhere to take shelter. Securing food is difficult even for those who have money, as many restaurants and cafés have closed their doors for fear of looting. Businesses that remain open are strictly monitoring their entrances and refusing to serve the young people.
Beatriz Masa, a Spanish migration expert who has monitored developments in the region for years, said that Fnidek had never before witnessed scenes like these.
According to Beatriz Masa and other experts, a movement of this scale could have occurred only with the tacit approval of the Moroccan authorities, amid the political crisis between Spain and Morocco.
The situation has led many tourists to cancel their holidays in Fnidek. Visitors who have decided to go there also say that the resort no longer resembles the quiet destination they knew and are choosing not to leave their hotels.
The effects of the crisis have also begun to affect traders at the city market, which is located near the beach. Meanwhile, a solution to the economic and humanitarian consequences remains a long way off.
