This protest movement, described as unprecedented in the country, has demonstrated resistance, perseverance and civic spirit. Among the chants echoing during the march through the capital’s streets are “Down with the patronage operatives” and calls for Rama to resign.
Participants are also opposing the old political class and calling for a change to the system. Their aim is a “new Albania,” where corrupt individuals are held accountable before the law and citizens’ legitimate interests are protected.
The protesters have announced that the revolt will continue. They have warned of nationwide protests during August as well, specifically on the 14th, 15th and 16th, when the Diaspora is also expected to join.
