Frenchman at Diaspora Protest: Albania’s Fate Will Be Decided by Albanians, a New Generation Is Needed in Power

During the diaspora protest outside the Prime Minister’s Office, a French citizen took the floor and spoke about his connection to Albania. He said he is married to an Albanian woman and has regularly visited the country for the past 10 years, during which time he has become acquainted with Albanian traditions and begun to love Albania.

He stressed that Albanians should not look abroad for answers, because, in his view, freedom will be written neither in Washington nor in Brussels. Change, he said, will emerge from the protest square.

“I am not Albanian; I am French, but I am married to an Albanian woman. I have been coming to Albania regularly for 10 years, I have become acquainted with your traditions, and I have begun to love Albania. Freedom will be written neither in Washington nor in Brussels. Change will come from this square. A new generation must take power, a generation that will love and serve the country. Albania needs a new mindset. Be proud of your past, have faith in the future, and never forget that Albania’s fate is in the hands of Albanians around the world,” he said.
