Residents of Memaliaj have protested against changes proposed by the Socialist Party as part of the Territorial Reform, under which the municipality would be merged with the Municipality of Tepelena.

Residents oppose the initiative, arguing that merging the two municipalities would increase costs and make life more difficult because of the area’s vast territory.
According to the protesters, relocating local services and concentrating the administration in another center would have negative consequences, particularly for residents living in more remote areas.
They are calling for the Municipality of Memaliaj to remain an independent local government unit and oppose any change that, in their view, restricts residents’ access to public services.
