Political scientist Gurakuq Kuçi has commented on recent developments, saying that this week’s events clearly highlight the distinction between the victim and the aggressor. He recalled that excavations are underway in Kalludër e Vogël, Zubin Potok, in an area suspected of containing a mass grave with the remains of Albanians who disappeared during the war. Meanwhile, their families continue to seek justice even after 27 years.

Kuçi noted that, alongside these searches, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuçiq is using threatening language, saying that Serbia has reasons to go to war and proudly displaying his country’s military might.
According to the political scientist, this behavior should not be accepted as normal, particularly at a time of international tensions, because it could fuel Serbia’s political ambitions toward Kosovo. This week’s developments make the contrast between the aggressor and the victim clearer than ever.
Excavations have begun in Kalludër e Vogël, Zubin Potok, at a site suspected of containing a mass grave with the remains of many Albanian intellectuals. Two people suspected of war crimes have been arrested, while there are suspicions that the remains may belong to 23 Albanians who were abducted and disappeared in April 1999. Even after more than 27 years, the families continue to await the identification of their loved ones and the delivery of justice.
During the same period, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuçiq has declared that Serbia “has every reason to go to war,” while boasting about the weapons and military capabilities of the state he leads.
We are dealing with a paradox that cannot and must not be allowed to become normal.
On the one hand, victims of Serbia’s genocide and war crimes are still being sought at suspected burial sites, while on the other, the leader of that same state is threatening conflict and attempting to portray war as a reasonable alternative.
At a time when peace in the Middle East is facing severe challenges and the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues without any apparent solution, Vuçiq and Serbia are reviving warmongering rhetoric. Through this approach, they are suggesting that global circumstances may provide more favorable ground for fulfilling their political objectives toward Kosovo, in line with the logic of the initiative to create a multipolar world.
Peace is not preserved through threats of war. Defending it requires confronting the past, shedding light on crimes, finding the missing and securing justice for the victims. Those who believe this can be achieved through stabilocracy and a policy of appeasement are, in fact, fueling the escalation of the current situation.
