Prishtina Prosecution Launches Investigation into Fatal Workplace Accident, Three Persons Detained

A severe accident at a construction site in Prishtina has caused the death of one worker and serious injuries to another, while judicial authorities have responded by detaining three individuals. The Basic Prosecution in the capital has confirmed the launch of investigations to fully clarify the incident.

The fatal event was recorded on July 28, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. The on-duty prosecutor from the General Department went to the scene immediately after receiving notification, accompanied by Kosovo Police officers, members of the Regional Investigation Unit, and representatives of the Labour Inspectorate.

The victim has been identified by the initials E.Sh., who lost her life as a result of the tragedy. Meanwhile, another person is receiving medical treatment at the University Clinical Centre of Kosovo (UCCK) due to serious bodily injuries sustained during the incident.

With the authorisation of the State Prosecutor, investigators have engaged specialists from various fields. Thus, independent occupational safety experts and a mechanical engineer worked on the ground. At the same time, material evidence was collected, security camera recordings were seized, and the forensics team carried out a detailed examination of the area where the accident occurred.

To build a full picture of the circumstances, authorities have questioned witnesses who saw the event, as well as the injured worker, who is hospitalised at UCCK.

In relation to this case, the Prosecution has opened investigations into two criminal offences provided for in the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo: “Causing General Danger” and “Destruction, Damage or Removal of Protective Equipment and Endangering Workplace Safety”.

Based on preliminary suspicions and the evidence administered at this stage, the Prosecution has decided to detain three persons. The first, identified by the initials A.Sh., is accused of the criminal offence “Causing General Danger”. The other two, B.S. and E.E., were detained for endangering workplace safety, where B.S. holds the position of responsible person in the construction company, and E.E. is a representative of the project’s investment company.

The Prosecution has stated that in the coming days it will assess the request for imposing security measures against the suspects, in accordance with applicable legal deadlines. Meanwhile, investigative actions will continue without interruption to clarify every aspect of the fatal accident that shook the capital.
