A scene of panic erupted at an amusement park in the state of New Mexico after the cable of a “bungee” type ride snapped while two teenagers were suspended, causing their capsule to violently slam against a metal pole.

The accident occurred on the “Southwest Slinger” ride at Western Playland.
The Sunland Park Fire Department reported that the two minors, a boy and a girl, were urgently assessed by medics at the scene. Both sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital.
After the cable snapped, the ride stopped automatically and the capsule remained stuck high up. Firefighters quickly intervened and lowered both passengers to the ground with safety measures, providing first aid on the spot.
Western Playland’s management reacted by immediately pulling the “Southwest Slinger” ride from operation as a precautionary measure.
“The ride will remain closed until the completion of a thorough investigation, in cooperation with all authorized partners. The safety of our visitors and staff remains our absolute priority,” the park’s announcement read.
Western Playland spans about 25 acres and is known for its family-friendly and extreme rides. The park has been operating for over fifty years and is considered one of the most frequented entertainment destinations in the southwestern United States.
Investigations to determine the causes and verify compliance with safety standards have been launched immediately by the relevant authorities.
