Economic Crisis Is Suffocating Iran More Than Bombings, Say US Officials

United States officials have asserted that economic blows are causing the regime in Tehran more severe consequences than airstrikes, relying on intelligence reports that testify to a worsening financial situation in the country.

An American official source has indicated that the Iranian capital is practically left without liquidity, as the leadership is focusing all its energies on securing monetary funds.

“The Iranians’ priority is money, then comes the cessation of attacks. They want money more than anything else,” the same official emphasized.

Intelligence gathered suggests that Iran is encountering serious obstacles in covering subsidies and guaranteeing fuel supply. Moreover, analysts fear that citizens could turn en masse to banks to withdraw deposits, making the financial system even more fragile.

On Tuesday, July 28, the clash between Washington and Tehran reaches six months, although neither country has struck the other for four consecutive nights.

In this context, US President Donald Trump announced that the Iranian side has sat back at the negotiating table for a new deal.

“Currently Iran is communicating with us to reach an agreement. The discussions are very friendly and we will wait to see the result,” Trump stated.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in Washington, where he will meet with President Trump, on the sidelines of a tribute to Senator Lindsey Graham. Recent moves regarding the Iranian issue are also expected to be in focus of their talks.
