According to media reports in Bosnia, the expedition consisted of seven residents of the central city of Zenica. The group also included a couple and a doctor employed at the local hospital.

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry announced that two of the climbers had been rescued and were being transported to hospital for medical treatment.

At an altitude of 5,350 meters, teams found the bodies of two other members of the expedition. They would be transported as soon as weather conditions permitted, while the search for the remaining three bodies continued amid difficulties caused by strong winds.

Elbrus rises to an elevation of 5,642 meters and is located just north of the border with Georgia. The mountain is known for sudden changes in weather and climbing conditions.
