Guxo party representative Agim Rexhepi has come to the defense of the Kosovo Government after the demolition of 11 illegal structures along the shore of Ujman Lake, emphasizing that the rule of law is non-negotiable and that institutions have a constitutional obligation to protect order and public property.

In a statement to “Bota sot”, he deemed it unacceptable that the EU Office in Pristina and the German Embassy focus attention on the demolished structures instead of on law enforcement and the country’s sovereignty. Rexhepi stressed that the Government has a constitutional duty to safeguard the territory, state property, and legal order, and that no one, regardless of ethnicity or political support, stands above the law.
According to him, when constructions are in violation of the law or in protected areas, authorities have not only the right but also the obligation to act in accordance with legislation. He added that international partners, who have supported the rule of law in Kosovo for years, should now back its uniform application and avoid creating the impression of double standards.
Rexhepi underscored that Kosovo is a sovereign and democratic state and that decisions of its institutions, when based on law and taken by competent bodies, must be respected. The rule of law, he said, can neither be negotiated nor applied selectively.
In closing, he expressed support for the Government in every step that protects the public interest, state property, and constitutional order, arguing that the strengthening of the state comes through law, not through tolerating violations. Kosovo, he concluded for “Bota sot”, advances by defending sovereignty, law, and the equality of citizens before institutions, which is the path of a mature European state.
This reaction came after the European Union expressed regret and concern over the manner in which the demolitions of eleven dwellings on the shore of Ujman Lake took place, which had been built without authorization on property managed by “Ibër-Lepenc”.
The EU Office in Kosovo called for an immediate halt to the demolitions and any further interventions, until issues concerning property rights, due process, and ongoing judicial procedures are properly addressed. In its response, the EU stressed that demolitions, forced evictions, or further seizures must stop immediately as long as concerns about due process, proportionality, human rights, and effective legal remedies have not been resolved.
