Former employee of the Prison Directorate, Fatjon Baçi, accused by SPAK of giving a mobile phone to the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has requested a more lenient measure from the court. Through his lawyer, Baçi stated that the act committed did not have a criminal purpose.
According to the defense, Veliaj used the phone only to contact his spouse and brother, without conducting any illegal conversations. The lawyer also emphasized that his client is the only family member who earns an income, asking the court to take into account personal and family circumstances in sentencing.

“Fatjon Baçi made a human error in the face of a man like Erion Veliaj, who enjoyed the power he had. Veliaj spoke with his brother and his wife and did not have any criminal conversations, otherwise he would not have given him the phone. I ask the Court to give a lighter sentence, taking into consideration that I had no criminal intent and considering the family circumstances, that I am the only employed person in my household.”
