North Macedonia officials informed of entry ban to Albania

Several officials from North Macedonia have been barred from entering Albanian territory. Among them are the coordinator of the VLEN parliamentary group and MP Bekim Qoku, MP Adnan Azizi, as well as Hasim Murtezani, deputy secretary-general in the Government of North Macedonia.

According to their statements, the incident took place today at the Qafë Thanë border crossing, as they attempted to cross the border using diplomatic passports. They claim they were kept waiting for approximately one hour without being given any explanation.

They further said that after an hour had passed, a border police officer informed them that three of them could continue their journey, while the fourth person accompanying them could not be allowed to cross. In protest, they decided to turn back and, later, based on their claims, were informed that there was an entry ban against them in Albania.

Sources from TV21 say that this situation is linked to suspicions that the same individuals were involved in organizing protests in Tirana, specifically that they are suspected of involvement in the so-called “Flamingo Revolution.”

The “Flamingo Revolution” is remembered as a civic movement in Albania that began at the end of May 2026 in opposition to interventions in the protected area of the Narta Lagoon, Zvërnec, and development projects on Sazan Island. It later turned into a broader movement against the government of Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama./TV21/
