After the June 7 elections and the end of her term at the head of state, Vjosa Osmani has once again become the focus of political debate, this time over her statements regarding the role she could play in the process of forming the institutions.
Most recently, although she had earlier said that the Vetëvendosje Movement had no reason to reject her candidacy for president, Osmani said she would not allow her name to become an obstacle to reaching an agreement.

“My name has never been an obstacle to the creation of institutions, nor will it ever be. I will not allow in any way for my name to be turned into an obstacle to the creation of institutions,” she said.
This statement has sparked debate over the political message she is conveying at this new stage of political developments, especially after the result of the June 7 elections and on the eve of the negotiations expected to take place over the post of president.
In this way, the dilemma has also resurfaced as to whether this marks a change in Osmani’s approach toward a new presidential mandate, or simply an effort not to become part of an institutional blockade.
Vuniqi: No name should be an obstacle to the creation of institutions
On this issue, commentator Agim Vuniqi also spoke to “Bota sot,” commenting on Osmani’s latest message in relation to political developments and the establishment of the country’s institutions.
In his comments to “Bota sot,” he said the former president’s statement could be seen as an attempt to ease political tensions, but he did not rule out the possibility that it also represents a tactical withdrawal.
“The statement that ‘her name has not been and will never be an obstacle to the creation of institutions’ is, above all, a political message that places the emphasis on the functioning of institutions above personal interests. In a parliamentary democracy, this is an approach that, in principle, contributes to lowering political tensions.
Whether this statement implies a tactical withdrawal from the ambition for a new presidential mandate or is the result of a reassessment after the June 7 elections cannot be said with certainty. These remain political interpretations and not proven facts,” he elaborated.
According to Vuniqi, every election result affects the calculations of political actors and the goals they set for the highest state offices.
He also stressed that the standard that should apply to everyone is that no name should become an obstacle to the creation of the state’s institutions.
“However, it is natural for every election result to affect the calculations of political actors. Elections determine not only the balance of power in the Assembly, but also the viability of candidacies for the highest state offices. In this sense, every statement made after an electoral process is also read in the context of the new political arithmetic.
More importantly, in my opinion, the debate should not focus on names, but on principles. Kosovo needs institutions built on constitutional consensus and normal democratic functioning, not on dependence on a single individual. If all political actors accept that no name should be an obstacle to the creation of institutions, then this should be a standard that applies to everyone, without exception.”
In conclusion, he said Osmani’s statement leaves room for a possible institutional compromise.
“In the end, I leave the judgment on the political motives to the citizens and future developments. What can be said today is that the statement creates room for institutional compromise, while whether it also represents a change in political strategy will become clear only through the concrete actions that follow,” Agim Vuniqi concluded for “Bota sot.”
Bukuroca: Vjosa seems to have excluded herself from the game and her political career appears to have come to an end
On the same topic, publicist Lis Bukuroca also initially spoke to “Bota sot,” assessing that Osmani’s statement looks more like a tactical withdrawal, since in his view it is hard to believe that she has given up her ambition for the post of president.
At the same time, he criticized the former president for behavior that, according to him, was not diplomatic and for a vindictive approach toward Prime Minister Kurti, especially after her statements since returning to the LDK.
“It is hard to believe that Vjosa no longer has ambitions. This looks more like a tactical withdrawal. A short time ago, she had said that Kurti had no reason whatsoever to reject her name.
With undiplomatic behavior and a markedly vindictive stance, she joined the LDK, hoping that she would increase the LDK by at least 10% and at the same time damage Kurti.
With her rhetoric, with insinuations and implications such as: ‘Who knows what Kurti said to Vučić,’ she degraded herself and greatly helped the public understand why, in the heat of the moment, she dissolved the Assembly,” he said.
Bukuroca further assessed that through her actions, Osmani has “diminished herself” and that, according to him, her political career now appears close to its end.
“Vjosa was great, but she herself diminished herself. Now she no longer has anyone’s support, not even that of the LDK as a whole. Unfortunately, Vjosa seems to have excluded herself from the game and her political career appears to have come to an end,” Lis Bukuroca concluded for “Bota sot.”
