Archbishop Janullatos is being escorted to his final resting place, will be laid to rest in the “Ngjalla e Krishtit” church

The funeral ceremony of the Archbishop of Albania, Anastas Janullatos, who will be given his final farewell today, has concluded at the “Ngjalla e Krishtit” Cathedral in Tirana.

Numerous believers accompanied the Archbishop’s coffin, while representatives of the Orthodox clergy from inside and outside the country, representatives of religious communities in the country, representatives of the diplomatic corps in Albania bid him farewell.

Also present were senior state officials, President Bajram Begaj, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Speaker of Parliament Elisa Spiropali and others.

The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, accompanied by ministers from his government cabinet, as well as the Archbishop of Athens, was also present at the farewell mass.

The requiem mass for Archbishop Anastasios Giannaults was held by Patriarch Bartholomew I, the world leader of the Orthodox Church.

The Archbishop passed away on January 25, 2025, at 8:30 a.m., at the age of 95, at the Evangelismos Hospital in Athens.

Archbishop Anastasios will be laid to rest in the crypt of the Cathedral, where, according to ancient Orthodox tradition, the leaders of the church who built and directed the holy temples are buried.
