German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said today that Europe is not exclusively dependent on the US, China or other countries. He said Europeans should underestimate neither their own capabilities nor the extent to which others depend on Europe.
He stressed that Europe has 450 million consumers and one of the world’s largest single markets.

Merz cited industry, software and microchip manufacturing, saying Europe produces goods essential to the rest of the world.
The German chancellor also said Europe should not leave it to others to determine the course of technology.
He said the aim is to work with private investors to develop autonomous, pioneering European artificial intelligence models to secure the technological foundations of Europe’s freedom.
