Kim Jong Un has called on North Korea’s armed forces to undertake a “military revolution,” demanding greater preparedness and improved capabilities to operate independently during combat operations.
The country’s leader spoke at a two-day meeting with military company commanders, held in Pyongyang on October 22 and 23, the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.

According to Kim, every company should become an elite unit capable of carrying out combat missions efficiently and without relying on others.
“Let us build the strongest army and accelerate a military revolution in our own way,” he said, according to KCNA.
Kim also stressed that each unit must be fully prepared to help fulfill the country’s goals of strengthening the military in the new era.
State media described the gathering as the first broad meeting of its kind since the Ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party of North Korea, held in February.
The congress sets the country’s political direction for the next five years. At it, Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to developing nuclear weapons and missiles, while also calling for an increase in conventional military capabilities.
The latest calls underscore the attention Pyongyang is devoting to modernizing its armed forces and maintaining their readiness.
With his call for a “military revolution,” Kim aims to improve the combat capabilities of units in the field and strengthen North Korea’s military organization, while the country continues investing in conventional and strategic capabilities.
