Will you leave politics?

This Thursday, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha categorically ruled out the possibility of leaving politics, saying such a decision would only serve to strengthen Prime Minister Edi Rama.

Asked whether he would be willing to take the first step and step down as opposition leader, Berisha firmly replied that this would never happen, calling the request absurd.

He criticized those calling for him to step down as leader of the Democratic Party, accusing them of seeking to equate him with Prime Minister Rama. He stressed, however, that “comparing him and Rama is like comparing night and day.”

“To make things easier for Rama? That will never happen! It’s the most absurd thing—it would mean strengthening Edi Rama and letting him act as he did toward the opposition. Those who say this are Edi Rama’s sycophants and yes-men. Comparing Sali Berisha with Edi Rama is like comparing day and night.

There is a real opposition that stands toe to toe with him. These blinded people who refuse to acknowledge the narco-state, who feed off the money of drug traffickers and the government, are trying to spread disinformation by saying that Rama and Berisha are the same, and that if Berisha leaves, Rama will leave too. They don’t want an opposition; they want Rama. Anyone can run; the race is open. This party holds elections once every four years. That other party hasn’t held elections from 2009 to this day,” Sali Berisha told reporters after leaving Parliament.
