The SP’s decision prompted a reaction from opposition MPs, who objected. In protest, they threw their voting cards toward Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi.

The entire parliamentary chamber was filled with tension, while Democratic Party MPs also overturned chairs.

What happened?

On behalf of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, Belind Këlliçi delivered a political statement on the protest, expressing support for the students.

He said there could be no parliamentary normality in the face of the political crisis. The Democratic Party MP called for the resignation of Edi Rama, the dissolution of Parliament and the formation of a technical government.

Taulant Balla then took the floor and defended the police officers who assaulted students and young people during the protest.

At that moment, Flamur Noka approached and prevented Balla from speaking.

Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi announced that the draft laws would be put to a vote, followed by the closure of the session.
