U.S. President Donald Trump said the end of the war in Ukraine is near. He also expressed gratitude to Russia for releasing U.S. citizen Stephen Hubbard, who had been held there for four years.
Regarding Hubbard’s case, Trump said nothing had been given in exchange for his release.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, the U.S. president said he had spoken with Vladimir Putin the previous day about resolving Russia’s war with Ukraine. He said the parties were genuinely moving closer to ending the conflict and may never have been as close as they are now.
Trump has made similar statements before, but efforts to end the war have so far been unsuccessful. Moscow continues to stand firm on its demands.
