Jakup Krasniqi refuses further medical care in The Hague

Jakup Krasniqi has refused to be examined by doctors in The Hague and said he will no longer receive healthcare services from the institutions there. The news was shared by his daughter, Gresa Krasniqi, who said she was concerned about her father’s condition after speaking with him by phone. According to her, his decision is linked to his dissatisfaction with the way he is being treated in The Hague.

Gresa Krasniqi said that during the call, her father told her he had refused examinations by several doctors because he was unhappy with his treatment at the detention facility.

Jakup Krasniqi, a former speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

According to his daughter, Krasniqi said he would no longer accept medical care from the relevant institutions because he believes he has been treated unfairly and denied his rights.

Gresa said her father’s decision particularly concerned her because of his age and need for healthcare. She also spoke of how difficult it was to persuade him to accept medical help from a system he, she said, no longer trusts.

“How can I ask him to accept care from those institutions when he feels betrayed by the very justice system that was supposed to protect him?” she wrote.

In her statement, Gresa also spoke of feeling powerless in the face of the situation her family is, she said, dealing with.

“I felt so powerless in the face of this unjust international power. We are here, Dad. We want you to be strong; we want you to be healthy,” she said.

At the end of her post, Jakup Krasniqi’s daughter described the court’s decision as an injustice, not a mistake that could be corrected.

“Dad’s sentence is not a mistake waiting to be corrected. It is an injustice,” Gresa Krasniqi wrote.
