When citizens approached the security perimeter, police launched a large-scale operation to disperse them. Police vehicles fired large volumes of water at the crowd, while the entire “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard was covered by thick clouds of tear gas.
Cameras and photographers captured police officers on the rooftop of the prime minister’s office throwing tear gas canisters down at protesters in the square.
Despite the extensive use of tear gas and water cannons, the situation in front of the government building remains chaotic, and the protesters are not leaving.
