The meeting, titled “Redefining oncology care: Systemic solutions for accessible and continuous care in Macedonia,” focused on the need for systemic improvements in services for people with malignant diseases.
Health Minister Sasho Klekovski emphasized that meeting patients’ needs allows no delays and that solutions are needed to ensure continuity of their treatment.
Efforts to stabilize oncology care and improve the way healthcare services for people with cancer are organized are accompanied by the message that patients cannot wait.
The key issues addressed at the workshop included establishing a nationwide oncology network, implementing uniform treatment standards and preparing a long-term cancer control plan for the country.
The discussions focused on three areas: organizing the national oncology network, standardizing treatment protocols and defining the plan that will guide cancer control in the long term.
A nationally coordinated system, treatment based on common standards and long-term planning are seen as important steps toward providing all patients in North Macedonia with higher-quality and more equitable care.
