Vetëvendosje lawmaker Hekuran Murati has urged his colleagues from opposition parties to attend the session at which the new president is expected to be elected.

In a statement to KosovaPress, Murati said Vetëvendosje had been ready for talks at every stage, while, in his view, the other political parties had not shown the same willingness.
“We have always been open to discussions about the president. It is now up to lawmakers from the other parliamentary parties to ensure they are present in the chamber during the vote. As is known, the country went to elections last time after the opposition boycotted the presidential vote,” Murati said.
Asked why a bill amending the law on the Specialist Chambers was not included on the agenda of today’s government meeting, Murati said every legislative initiative must first go through a review process.
“This bill, like all other bills, takes time to analyze and consider. The relevant ministries review it, give their opinions, and then it is moved forward,” he said.
In its September 23 ruling, Kosovo’s Constitutional Court said the 60-day deadline for electing the president began on August 8, when the Assembly was constituted, and ends on October 6.
