The enlargement of the European Union to the Western Balkan countries is not only an investment in the region’s stability, but also a strategic choice for Europe’s security, strength and future, Foreign Minister Timcho Mucunski said.

He spoke at the opening of the “European Dialogues, European Heritage and the Future” conference, which is being held in Skopje from tonight until October 2. The event is an initiative of the French Institute in Paris, the French Institute in Skopje and the Embassy of France in North Macedonia.
Mucunski emphasized that the young people of the Western Balkans have an important role in shaping Europe’s future. According to him, enlargement today is Europe’s strategic investment in its security, strength and prospects, in addition to its importance for regional stability.
The minister said that the country remains strategically committed to EU membership. However, the process should strengthen institutions, create more opportunities for citizens and transform society without undermining national identity.
