The citizens’ protest, which today entered its 113th day, continues to attract the attention of international media. Most recently, the civic movement has been echoed by SBS Dateline, an Australian investigative journalism television program, which highlights that the protest initially started against the project in Zvërnec but quickly turned into a movement against the government.

Citizens who spoke to Jennifer Scherer, the show’s journalist, from the square where they gather daily, emphasize that the time has come to change the political system.
“We are trying to bring about a system change. We need a powerful popular revolt. Now is the time,” says a protester.
Activist Jurgen Shpërdhea also spoke to the show, highlighting that Albania has everything it needs to be a wealthy country. He also mentions the fact that many children have joined the square, chanting with others the “refrain” “Rama, resign.”
Others express that they have come to the square to make a change in their future possible. Likewise, Prime Minister Edi Rama also spoke to the Australian show, saying that the project cannot be determined by protests.
“There is no possibility that progress in Albania and the project will be determined by street protests; this will never happen. Not while I am in charge,” he said.
