Reactions to footage of a woman dumping waste into the Lepenec River continue, while another similar case has since been recorded. The video shows two people on a motorcycle with a trailer stopping and unloading waste directly onto the road.

Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski said ways were being considered to encourage citizens to dispose of waste in accordance with the rules. One option being examined is offering rewards to people who photograph or record cases of illegal dumping and then report them.

“I do not have 2,500 or 5,000 inspectors to monitor every location. As for Drisla, at the next session I will propose to the Council of the City of Skopje that waste be accepted free of charge one or two days a month. I also think it would not be a bad idea to set aside a sum of money for citizens who report such behavior through photographs,” said Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski.

Gjorgjievski also announced that the procedure for installing cameras at more than 200 locations across the city is nearing completion. The equipment will be installed in areas where illegal dumps are formed, as well as in parks and children’s playgrounds.
