Luka Mishetiq, Hashim Thaçi’s lawyer, has reacted to a statement by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos regarding the judgment against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army. Kos described the Specialist Chambers as “an impartial and independent judicial body.”

On September 16, Kos said that the decisions of the Specialist Chambers must be respected, while convicted individuals have the right to appeal. She described the case as involving “individual responsibility and justice for the victims and their families from all communities in Kosovo” and called for reconciliation in the region.
Mishetiq challenged her assessment of the Specialist Chambers, arguing that the court’s impartiality in Thaçi’s case has yet to be established.
“Whether the Kosovo Specialist Chambers have acted impartially in Mr. Thaçi’s case remains to be determined. It is not for Marta Kos to prejudge this matter,” Mishetiq wrote.
