Trump rejects additional rules for AI: Don’t be afraid of artificial intelligence

Donald Trump dismissed concerns about artificial intelligence as a “hoax” and opposed calls for new safeguards to be imposed on a technology advancing at tremendous speed.

His reaction came after Jack Clark, co-founder of Anthropic, told the BBC that the AI industry could be required to equip its systems with a “kill switch”. This would be a mechanism enabling an artificial intelligence system to be completely shut down if it became a major threat.

Clark also proposed that control over the mechanism be entrusted to an independent party.

Warnings about the consequences AI could have for humanity are increasingly coming from executives and employees of major technology companies.

These concerns have also been reflected in financial markets, where shares in several technology companies have fallen. Investors fear that tighter regulations could slow the pace of development in the artificial intelligence industry.

In his social media posts, Trump compared warnings about AI to what he called the “global warming hoax”.

The US president called himself the “Hoax Buster”, while declaring that the only “protection” artificial intelligence needs is a strong and smart president.

Earlier, Trump had warned of the existence of a “sick conspiracy” against AI and data centers. He expressed concern that such a situation could benefit China, but insisted that the country that wins the artificial intelligence race would secure a major global advantage.
