Citizens mark 103rd day of protest, anti-government action continues: ‘Rama resign

This Thursday, citizens are expected to gather again in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, marking the 103rd day of protest against the government. The rally follows yesterday’s protest, which also brought a change in the way the action was organized.

During the march, citizens stopped at some of the main intersections of the capital, where they stood temporarily blocking vehicle traffic.

Among the points where the action took place was the intersection at Elbasan Street, as well as the one in the direction of Skanderbeg Square.

Protesters moved from one area to another, while the march was accompanied by national flags, banners, and strong chants against the government. “Arrest Rama, arrest Balluku” and “Albania demands revolution” were among the slogans repeated on the streets of the capital.

Before the march, activists and representatives of civil society spoke from the podium in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, calling for the protest to continue and for increased citizen participation.

Environmentalist Sazan Guri called for the cause to be placed above divisions among protesters. “The cause is the most important thing; it brings us together, organizes us, and makes us forget the quarrels,” he declared.

Doctor Ermal Pashaj criticized the government and asked citizens to continue reacting. “We must provide solutions. Division has also crept in among us. This must not happen. We must react to the noose around our neck that the government is putting on us,” Pashaj said.

During the protest, there were also messages about recent political developments and the statements of former deputy prime minister Arben Ahmetaj. Activists warned that the action would continue and declared that the protest would produce “new dynamics.”

Indeed, the march and the blocking of intersections marked the key element of yesterday’s protest. Instead of the action ending after the speeches in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, citizens moved it to the streets of Tirana, temporarily blocking several roads and continuing the anti-government chants.
