Why is Iran targeting Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan? Analysis of regional tensions

Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan have become increased targets of Iranian attacks, due to the key role they play in supporting the American military presence in the Middle East.

Tehran has directed strikes against these three states precisely because they provide terrain for U.S. operations and bases, considering them as part of the allied infrastructure that must be hit.

In Bahrain is the command center of the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet, while Kuwait’s territory hosts major installations such as Camp Arifjan and Ali Al Salem Air Base. According to Iranian claims, the targets of the attacks are precisely these American military points in the respective countries.

However, the consequences of these actions have not been limited only to military targets. Civilian infrastructures have also suffered damage, including water supply facilities in Kuwait, air navigation systems in Bahrain, and Kuwait International Airport.

Jordan has also faced an increase in attacks in recent days, with reports of casualties and injuries among the American personnel stationed there.

Beyond the military aspect, specialists believe that Iran is also sending a clear political signal. Through these actions, Tehran aims to pressure the group of countries that have sided with Washington, while keeping open the possibility of escalation against other actors in the area.

Thus, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Jordan now find themselves at the epicenter of a broader confrontation taking place between Iran and the United States alliance in the Middle East region.
