The absence of Mojtaba Khamenei from the public scene for several months has fueled numerous speculations in Western media and intelligence circles about his whereabouts and condition.

An analysis published by Daily Mail, which refers to unidentified intelligence sources and former officials, presents three main theories about Iran’s de facto leader.

The first scenario places him still in Iran, where he may be sheltered in a bunker or an underground facility for security reasons. According to this theory, he is recovering from injuries sustained during previous attacks.

Another claim is that Mojtaba Khamenei has secretly left for Russia, but the analysis considers this possibility unlikely.

The third variant, which some of the cited sources consider the most likely, says that he is alive but suffering from a serious health condition that prevents him from carrying out his duties. In this situation, decision-making is suspected to be led by the heads of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Doubts about what is happening in the Iranian leadership have increased also because of his absence from public appearances, official ceremonies, and traditional messages to the people.

In parallel, on social networks and in international media, rumors have also spread about his private life, but these claims have not been supported by official confirmations.

The analysis notes that, despite the question marks over Mojtaba Khamenei’s whereabouts, the main influence on the Iranian decision-making process is attributed to the Revolutionary Guard. This structure is considered to have strengthened its control over key state institutions.
