VLEN: Six police officers suspended, no one can escape responsibility

Following the brutal violence inflicted on two young men from Saraj, six police officers have been suspended. The institutions reacted in record time and disciplinary procedures have been launched against them, meaning the case has not gone unanswered. VLEN announced today that the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MoIA) has done its part of the job, while the further procedures are being directed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

VLEN stresses that in our country there should be no place for police violence. The uniform is meant to protect the citizen, not to beat him. No suspicion against a person justifies his mistreatment.

However, with the release of the footage, the Albanian opposition tried to turn the violence against the two young men into a political clash. Accusations, propaganda, and attempts to give this case an ethnic undertone emerged.

The fact that six police officers were suspended shows that the system works. According to VLEN, this is a victory of integrity in the face of manipulation and a victory of sound reason over attempts to stir up inter-ethnic tensions.
