Vitia on baby mix-up at American Hospital 2: Case handled urgently, citizens urged to report violations

Minister of Health Arben Vitia has commented on the case involving the mix-up of a baby at American Hospital 2.

He said that as soon as he received the information, he requested an urgent meeting with the chief inspector, calling for the circumstances of the case to be investigated with the utmost seriousness.

“The moment I was informed as minister, I requested an urgent meeting with the chief inspector and insisted that the case be handled with the utmost seriousness, in order to understand what had happened. According to the information I have, the chief inspector held a meeting yesterday, and several people suspected of violating the rules during the inspection were referred to the disciplinary committee and received additional reprimands. All measures will be implemented, and no lapse by any institution will be tolerated,” Vitia told Tëvë1.

The minister urged citizens to notify the institutions if they observe similar violations.

“I call on everyone to report any violations they observe at any institution, including the cabinet and administration of the Ministry of Health. I assure them that measures will be taken immediately,” Vitia said.

The Health Inspectorate announced that violations had been identified in this case and that measures had been taken.
