Villa Certosa bought by the Al Thani family for 350 million euros, Qatar strengthens investment presence in Italy

Villa Certosa, the luxury residence in Sardinia that belonged to former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has been purchased by Qatar’s royal family, the Al Thani dynasty, for 350 million euros.

Confirmation of the sale came from Immobiliare Idra, a company within the Fininvest group, which announced that it had accepted the binding offer for the property. The agreement brings to a close months of speculation over the fate of the villa following Berlusconi’s death in June 2023.

Italian media, including La Nuova Sardegna and Corriere della Sera, reported that negotiations had entered their final phase in recent weeks. Initially, the property had been put on the market with a price tag of 500 million euros, while investors from the Middle East, as well as major luxury hospitality groups, had shown interest in the purchase.

The property will now pass into the hands of the Al Thani family, which in recent years has significantly increased its investments in the Gallura area, especially in the tourism and healthcare sectors. According to reports, the transaction was carried out through a Luxembourg-based investment company that manages Qatar’s European real estate investments.

Described as one of the best-known and most luxurious private residences in Italy, Villa Certosa has over the years hosted world leaders, Berlusconi’s political allies, and prominent figures from the business world. The property includes an extensive area with swimming pools, a spa, guest houses, sports facilities, a helicopter landing pad, an artificial volcano, and many specially designed recreational areas.

The sale of the villa marks the end of an era for one of the most iconic properties associated with the figure of Silvio Berlusconi.
