Verdict for Defendants Accused of Killing Three People in Gllogjan in 2021 to Be Announced Monday

The Basic Court in Peja has scheduled the announcement of the verdict for Halil, Kreshnik and Kastriot Mehmetaj for Monday, August 24. The hearing will begin at 2:30 p.m.

The three defendants are on trial over the November 26, 2021 incident in Gllogjan, when shots were fired at a bus while it was in transit.

The attack killed the bus driver, Gani Gjokaj, as well as two 17-year-old students, L.H. and G.M. Meanwhile, F.T. was seriously wounded.

In the indictment, the prosecution claims that the attack targeted the driver, Gani Gjokaj, who is now deceased.

According to the prosecution, the Mehmetaj family blamed Gjokaj for the suicide of their daughter, Heroina Mehmetaj. This, according to the prosecution, was the motive for the crime.

The indictment states that Kastriot Mehmetaj, who was armed, had stepped onto the road in front of the bus and pretended to be drunk, intending to make the driver slow down or stop. When the bus slowed down, he allegedly fired at the driver.

After the attack, Kastriot Mehmetaj is suspected of fleeing toward the village of Shaptej, where Kreshnik Mehmetaj was waiting for him in a car.

Halil Mehmetaj is also accused of inciting his sons, Kastriot and Kreshnik Mehmetaj, to kill the driver, Gani Gjokaj, between June 14, 2020 and November 26, 2021, by repeatedly blaming him for the suicide of his daughter, Heroina Mehmetaj.
