USA and Iran clash again after weeks of calm, Washington strikes long-targeted objective

After several weeks of relative calm, the United States and Iran have once again engaged in a direct confrontation, as the conflict enters its seventh month.

During the night between Sunday and Monday, August 31, Tehran launched rockets toward Aqaba and the Muwaffaq Salti air base in Jordan, where American troops are also stationed.

A U.S. official confirmed the attack to Fox News, stating that almost all Iranian rockets were intercepted by defense systems.

Washington declared that most of the rockets were intercepted. This development follows the American strike on Larak Island and has increased tensions in the Persian Gulf as well.

Iran’s action was a response to the U.S. strike on Larak Island, where American forces destroyed two Iranian missile systems.

The United States Central Command said the operation was not an “act of aggression.” According to it, the target was the naval mining units of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, which posed an immediate threat in the Strait of Hormuz.

A few hours later, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard announced that a supertanker had caught fire after violating rules and colliding with two naval mines.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most fragile areas of the conflict, as a significant portion of international oil transport passes through it.

The escalation has not been limited to the clash between the U.S. and Iran.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard also claimed to have attacked the United Arab Emirates. However, the UAE’s defense minister denied this statement.
