U.S. Embassy: Joni Ernst’s visit underscored the importance of the U.S.-Kosovo partnership

The visit of U.S. Senator Joni Ernst to Kosovo served to provide a clearer picture of the current political and security developments in the country, the U.S. Embassy in Pristina announced.

During her stay, Ernst met with representatives of Kosovo’s institutions. She greeted U.S. troops from Iowa at Camp Film City in Pristina, visited Camp Bondsteel, and held meetings with members of the KFOR Regional Command East and the Area Support Group-Balkans.

Through its announcement, the U.S. Embassy highlighted the importance of the senator’s engagements during her visit to Kosovo.

“The senator’s productive meetings provided a valuable overview of current dynamics in Kosovo and underlined the importance of constructive relations between the U.S. and Kosovo.”

According to the Embassy, Ernst was honored to receive the Presidential Medal of Merit, awarded for her contribution to strengthening the partnership between Kosovo and the United States.

“Senator Joni Ernst concluded her visit to Kosovo after meetings with Kosovo’s government leaders, greeting troops from Iowa at Camp Film City, and visiting Camp Bondsteel and the dedicated members of KFOR Regional Command East and the Area Support Group-Balkans. Senator Ernst was honored to receive the Presidential Medal of Merit and the Distinguished Service Medal. The senator’s productive engagements provided valuable insight into the current dynamics in Kosovo and emphasized the importance of a constructive U.S.-Kosovo relationship,” the announcement states.

The U.S. senator’s stay in Kosovo took place at a time when security and the United States’ presence in the country have become the focus of political debates. In his meeting with Ernst, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti reiterated the request for Camp Bondsteel to become a permanent U.S. military presence in Kosovo.
