Two Trams Collide in Germany, Around 25 Injured, Three in Critical Condition

Around 25 people were injured when two trams collided in the German city of Gelsenkirchen. Seven of them sustained serious injuries, while three remain in critical condition and continue to be in life-threatening danger.

Initial information indicates that one of the trams had stopped on an open section of the line before being hit by another tram carrying passengers.

Immediately after the accident, the injured were given first aid at the scene. They were then taken to hospitals in the area for treatment.

The reasons behind the collision remain unknown. The authorities have set up a special investigative team to clarify the circumstances of the incident and why the first tram had stopped in the middle of the route.

Dozens of rescue teams, ambulances and psychologists were deployed at the scene to assist passengers and others affected by the accident.

Gelsenkirchen Mayor Andrea Henze, after seeing the damage inside one of the trams firsthand, described the incident as “an absolute shock.”

Because of the accident, a section of Kurt-Schumacher Boulevard was blocked in both directions, causing traffic problems. Later, only one lane was opened on this section of the road.
