Trump Warns Tehran of “Last Chance” as Tensions Rise Again in Strait of Hormuz

Donald Trump warned Iran that it was facing a “last chance” to reach an agreement, just one day after the President of the United States announced new negotiations aimed at ending the months-long conflict.

During an event in the Oval Office, Trump told reporters that the talks were taking place at the request of Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and other countries.

The White House chief said this was Iran’s last chance to sign a good agreement.

Tehran, however, presented a different version of events. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei denied that negotiations with the United States were taking place and said that no meeting had been scheduled.

Baghaei explained that Iran was negotiating with Oman and that the focus was on reaching an agreement on a path that would guarantee the safety of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. According to him, these were bilateral talks between the two coastal states, while the possibility of negotiations with the US would be considered at a later stage.

Responding to these statements, Trump claimed that the Iranian side had begged him to stop the attacks and reach an agreement.

Speaking from the Oval Office, he said the Iranians had called asking not to be attacked and promising that they would reach an agreement. Trump insisted that this was the truth and that everyone knew it.

Meanwhile, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense. A cargo ship reported that it had been struck by a projectile near the coast of Oman, although it is not yet known which country carried out the attack.
