Trump rejects Saudi Arabia’s request as Crown Prince bin Salman calls him twice over strikes against the Houthis

Riyadh requested US intervention against attacks by the Houthi organization, but US President Donald Trump rejected the request.

According to reports by US media, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman contacted Trump twice on the same day.

During the second call, bin Salman directly requested authorization for strikes against the Houthis. Trump rejected the possibility, stating that Washington would provide assistance with intelligence from US services but would not become militarily involved.

Saudi Arabia’s main concern is related to the security of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which is an important hub for trade and energy transport.

Backed by Iran, the Houthis have expanded their presence along Yemen’s coastline.

Control of Mocha and Perim Island has heightened fears that the group could obstruct or threaten shipping in this strategic area.

The risk to Riyadh is not limited to maritime transport. The Houthis have also threatened Saudi oil exports, putting one of the alternative supply routes at risk, while tensions with Iran have raised questions about passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

A blockade of Bab el-Mandeb would have consequences beyond the Middle East, as a significant portion of global trade and oil supplies passes through this corridor.

However, Trump has shown no signs that he is prepared to become involved in another military front.

The US president has repeatedly stressed that he does not want a new conflict and has signaled that his main objective is to prevent escalation.
