Trump on five Britons released on bail: I was surprised; I would not have released them

Donald Trump has commented on the decision to release on bail five British nationals who were arrested near an air base used by the U.S. military in Britain. The U.S. president said he would not have acted in the same way.

“I was surprised that they were released. I would not have done that,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, referring to the suspects who are being investigated for planning an attack on the base.

All five individuals, aged between 23 and 25, were released on bail earlier in the day, while the investigation into them continues.

“I would not have let them go,” said the U.S. president, who described the decision to release them as unexpected.

Trump also spoke about the conflict with Iran, revealing that U.S. officials had held talks during the day with mediators seeking to bring the war to an end. He reiterated his belief that the United States would win the conflict “very quickly.”

“We will win, one way or another. It will happen very quickly,” he said.

According to Trump, fuel prices will fall significantly after the U.S. victory in the war.

Regarding relations with Canada, the U.S. president said that a trade agreement between the two countries would ultimately be reached. He said the Canadians “keep calling” and are interested in a deal.

Trump also announced plans by Mesabi Metallics to build a large steel plant in Iowa, which he described as “the largest” in the history of the United States.

The project involves an investment of $18 billion and is expected to create 6,000 jobs during the construction phase. In the long term, the plant is also expected to provide 2,000 jobs in the steel industry.

Criticized over economic results just weeks before the midterm elections, which will determine the renewal of Congress, Trump insisted that the U.S. economy “has never been in better shape.”
