Trump Orders Strikes on Iran: “Now It’s Our Turn”

U.S. forces have launched military strikes against Iran after President Donald Trump warned that Washington would retaliate for the thwarted Iranian attack on U.S. troops in the Middle East.

According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation began at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time and is targeting Iranian military sites. CENTCOM said the actions constitute “a powerful response to Iran’s attempt to strike U.S. forces based in the Middle East.”

Shortly before the strikes began, Trump said from the Oval Office that the U.S. would hit Iran “very hard.” “We’re going to hit them very hard, because now it’s our turn. They know what’s coming,” the U.S. president said.

The previous evening, on Tuesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had launched several ballistic missiles toward U.S. forces stationed in the region. The Jordanian military reported that it had intercepted five of the missiles, preventing them from hitting their targets.
