Trump flies for the first time on Qatar-donated Air Force One: Calls it “truly impressive” and says the US would not be able to build one like it

Donald Trump made his first trip today aboard the new presidential Air Force One, a luxury Boeing donated by Qatar, which has sparked strong reactions over legal, ethical and national security concerns.

Before departing for North Dakota, where he took part in events marking America’s 250th anniversary, Trump spoke enthusiastically about the new aircraft and presented it as an unusual flying machine.

He said he was excited about the first flight, that there has never been an aircraft like this before, and that the US would not be able to build one like it because, according to him, the funds would be lacking, while the Qataris have spent a large amount of money.

Last month, the new Air Force One was officially unveiled at Andrews Air Force Base, while Trump described it as “the most luxurious airplane in the world.”

Its interior includes leather seats that turn into beds, seat belts bearing the presidential seal, beige wall and floor coverings, as well as gold lighting.

The aircraft is estimated to be worth $400 million. It was donated to the US Pentagon and will be used by Trump until Boeing completes construction of the new presidential aircraft, a process expected to take about two more years.

The new aircraft carries a white, red and dark blue color scheme, bringing to mind the personal plane the US president has used for years. Trump said the aircraft has been properly prepared for a president and equipped with all the necessary security systems and specifications for transporting the head of the American state, calling it truly impressive.

This aircraft will temporarily replace the modified Boeing 747-200 that has served as Air Force One since 1990. Meanwhile, two Boeing 747-800s are being converted into the new permanent presidential aircraft, the VC-25B, with delivery expected in about two years.
